ABOUT DANA

Dana Margolin is a London based visual artist, songwriter and musician.

Margolin writes and performs in the band Porridge Radio, and has made the artwork for all the band’s albums, notably the paintings for Mercury Prize nominated album Every Bad, and their 2022 album Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky - creating encompassing visual worlds for the two albums.

She occasionally takes commissions for other people and projects whilst writing, performing, painting, building and collaborating as part of a continuing exploration of her own practice.

PHILOSOPHY

Emotional vulnerability is central to connection, and making in any medium is a means to reach out beyond your own inner world, to reflect it back out onto your surroundings and see where it lands. To play, to make a mess, to start from anywhere, to be serious about what you are doing whilst not taking yourself too seriously - it is risk that allows us to connect.

Art allows us to take what is ineffable about human experience, and to find a way to understand it - to translate it into something else. Where we are ashamed of our grief and our joy, of our suffering and our pleasure, the act of making allows us to transform the intangible into something perceptible, graspable, interpretable; to create new meaning in small pieces to allow us to move beyond alienation.
